Meet Hailey: Our 2022 Summer Intern!

Hi everyone! My name is Hailey! I am so excited to start my first summer interning with lemon & lime event design! Getting to learn and experience the ins and outs of planning events is something I have been dreaming of since I can remember and now it is happening!

I was born in South Carolina but moved and was raised in Towson, Maryland from before I can remember. When it was time for me to choose a college I decided to go back down to the Carolinas to attend High Point University in North Carolina. I am a rising junior majoring in event management. I love hanging out with my friends and the girls in my sorority, either at the pool, getting something to eat, or even just watching a movie on the couch with that week's Crumbl Cookies! Going to High Point has been one of the most amazing adventures in my life and has led me to make lifelong friendships, connections, and experiences that I will take with me beyond graduation!

I have always been very passionate about events and the behind the scenes of making someone’s dream come to life! Ever since I was a little girl and went to my first wedding, I couldn't help but look at all of the little details, from the venue itself down to the napkin rings. I believe it's the little things that bring an already fabulous event to life. I love being on the go and getting to work with people who share the same passions as me to surprise people and break the boundaries on what is possible for their events. The women at lemon & lime have created something truly magical that I personally cannot wait to be a part of!

Majoring in event management at school has allowed me to get a little sneak peak of the event industry and has given me some experience planning some of the events around campus has solidified my love for planning events. While interning with lemon & lime I hope to gain more real world experience and to see all of what happens in a professional event planning company. I am most excited to see all of the plans and tactics used to bring an event into fruition and the logistics on the day of the event with setting up/taking down and how to keep every event on track for success! After I graduate from High Point I hope to start with getting a job in an event company and eventually starting my own event business in the end!

Morgan's Spooky Baby Shower

Something

wickedly sweet this way comes…

lemon & lime event design has always been run by a team of successful mom-bosses — so of course we are thrilled that our Operations Manager will be adding that honor to her title by welcoming her first, due on October 30th.

Being part of our event planning team for the past 6 years, mom-to-be Morgan, could not have planned her due date more perfectly, as Halloween has always been her favorite holiday and she is our resident go-to-gal for all things spooky! It was only fitting that we throw her a shower worthy of the Scream Queen herself!

Planning this celebration during the time of Covid, we knew this intimate shower would still need to be big on impact - and did not disappoint! From the perfectly set table complete with batty backdrop, that we imagine even Morticia Addams would love to dine at, to the individual Halloween treat boards and magic potion mocktails for each guest, no detail of this spooky shower was overlooked.

Morgan was taken by complete surprise and over the moon with how perfectly fitting this shower was — and what better way to get in the spirit of the season and ready to welcome her daughter, Daisy, who she hopes will be brought into this world by the full moon on Halloween!

Meet Kate!

Hi everyone, I’m Kate! This is my first summer interning with lemon & lime and I couldn’t be more excited! Getting to experience the event design industry first-hand is something I could have only dreamed of, but here I am!

unnamed-1.jpg

I have always been passionate about event design because I love the spirit of celebrations and the creativity in managing people, timelines and details. Being able to look at this career path and know that every day will bring something new and exciting to the table is something I have always looked for, and experiencing it with the incredible women at lemon & lime is icing on the cake!

I am from Ellicott City, MD but during the school year, I attend Elon University in North Carolina. I am a rising Junior studying Strategic Communications and Communication Design and love basking in the warm weather down south. I love to keep busy and always be on the go, so when I’m not in class (don’t worry mom!), I’ll either be at swim practice, hanging out with my sorority, at OrangeTheory or DoorDashing Cheesecake Factory with my best friend.

I’m hoping to gain all-around experience in the event planning world -- from behind the scenes logistics and handling tasks on the day of the event, to helping manage social media platforms to bring in a bigger audience and creating content. Any experience is a good experience! After Elon, I hope to continue my passion for planning and to make a successful career in the event design industry.

Diverse Children's Toys

Being mothers, as well as business women, representation and respect of all races and cultures has always been an important part to raising our children. We believe all children should be able to live and contribute to a world of equality, but now more than ever it's vital to keep propelling that message. Inspired by the incredibly powerful messages, experiences, and awareness that we have been consuming, we have been taking the time to find and support companies that create and sell multicultural and diverse dolls, toys and literature to continue the conversations with our children about race.

The below list is just a start, we know that there are many, many more out there! If you have any to share please, send us a message to let us know. We hope to continue to update this list and make it a resource for those who need it.

Spring Into Autumn

If you originally selected your bridal party's attire with Spring in mind, but are suddenly planning an Autumn or Winter wedding -- we're here to help!

We teamed up with Bella Bridesmaids Baltimore to give some of their most popular Spring dresses an Autumnal twist!

One of Jenny Yoo's most popular colors is "Whisper Blue" -- a soft and delicate shade that is normally thought for Spring.

Have your girls wear gold jewelry - a metal that is elegant no matter the season, but also gives a hint of warmth.

You're going to gift your girls something for being with you every step of the way and standing next to you on your big day - so why not make it work for your new season! Gifting your bridesmaids a clutch in a texture (like velvet!) fit for the season is something they will love, while also completing the look!

This popular style from Dessy is perfect for a pop of a fun shoe and paired with elegant hair accessories! Pearls, jewels, metallics, texture -- all things that elevate an already stunning style.

Did you think pink? No fear! Shades of blush, mauve, and pink are popular no matter the weather, season, or month! Colors like Jenny Yoos's "Whipped Apricot", "Thistle", "Desert Rose" and "Blush" have been so popular to mix and match.

Even if you originally selected that palette in mind with blooming flowers and warm sunshine, these colors are super easy to transition to any season! Adding a fur or cape, introducing a deeper shade in your florals, and having fun with shoe styles and fabrics are all great ways to make this look work for your new date!

One dress to rule them all. Two Birds' Classic Ballgown can be worn and changed up in endless possibilities, which already gives you an edge and an easy fix. But why not take it one step further? A versatile dress calls for versatile hair!

Adult Birthday Celebration Ideas During Lock Down

Art by: @rabeccky

Art by: @rabeccky

Friends and family with a birthday over the next month? We're assuming any previous plans have definitely changed. Below are ideas to still make it a special day -- both if you're in the same house or celebrating from afar (you know even down the street). And if you have a child with a birthday soon, check out our blog entry on kids ideas as well!

- Signs in the yard! Not sure you have poster board laying around, but what about boxes? Enlist kids if you have them to help decorate!

- Adding to the above, have a sign that says HONK for the Birthday Boy/Girl. Honks throughout the day will at least get a chuckle :) (unless you have a baby, then move on to the next idea).

- Grub Hub bagels in the morning to their house or order an ice cream pie, cake, cupcakes for delivery or pick up. PLEASE support local business when possible. Marylanders! Check out THB for bagels and The Charmery for ice cream pie!

- Check out the House Party App

- Georgetown Cupcake is delivering

- Check out Local businesses for alcohol + ready-to-drink drinks for curbside pick up!

- Drizly.com is delivering alcohol

- Urban Stems is still delivering flowers! Check out local options as well

Marigold and Grey has lovely and curated gift boxes to send to a loved one

Darcy Miller is offering free printables of "Celebration Toppers" for cakes, cupcakes, burgers, you name it!

- Channel your inner child and make a fort to snuggle up in as you make a drink and  watch a movie.
- Have your household and the birthday boy/girl get all dressed up like you were actually going out. Shave those legs, put on cologne, make up, princess dresses or bow ties for kids, give yourself a blow out. Everyone will feel refreshed and ready to celebrate!

- Ask neighbors who are able to walk by your house/apartment to do a social distancing birthday Carol --- sing Happy Birthday from the street. Again, only for friends/neighbors who can walk to you and keep a safe distance!

- Watch a movie with friends or family with Chrome Cast + Netflix

- If it's nice weather, consider camping out in your yard or deck or having dinner by candle light

- Check out local bands and DJs who are holding LIVE facebook events. Bring the club to your living room!

- Try out a new recipe in your old recipe books for dinner and a movie.

We've Got Kid's Parties On Lock...DOWN!

Lockdown_Bday_Artwork.jpg

We know many kids had to cancel their birthday plans and parties due to the lockdown. We hope they can be postponed! In the meantime, we wanted to offer families alternate ideas on how to celebrate at home.

  • Dress up! Make the whole family — even pets — put on their Sunday's best for dinner.

  • Eat lunch in a unique place -- kids bedroom, garage, backyard, make it different and fun

  • Eat cake for breakfast! Or ice cream. Or cupcakes -- anything goes on a birthday during lockdown.

  • Reach out to loved ones to send video messages to be watched (and re-watched) throughout the day!

  • Cut out stars or hearts from magazines/paper and make a path from their door to the main living area where a surprise will be waiting.

  • Make a scavenger hunt to find gifts.

  • Dress the Birthday boy/girl up in whatever birthday flair you can find and go for a walk. Other walkers will for sure say happy birthday (from a safe distance!)

  • Support an etsy shop and purchase instant downloads for custom ideas to decorate with.

  • Contact your local news station to see if they'll give him or her a shout out on the air.

  • Set up a ninja course around the house and or backyard for a ninja themed celebration!

  • Ask neighbors and friends to walk by and sing happy birthday from the sidewalk. Or if you're not in a neighborhood, drive the birthday boy/girl to various friends/family homes and ask them to sing or celebrate from their porch!

  • Make a kid “snack board!” A youthful spin on a lemon & lime favorite (chacuterie!). This can be anything from bite sized PBJ to some apples and cheese and goldfish. You can even keep it easy and jazz it up with some leftovers! Use what ya got!

  • Tea Time! Have a birthday tea party with creative snacks and sweets while dressed up with your pinkies out!

Supporting Small Businesses During the Covid Crisis

image5.jpeg

As we are all navigating through uncharted territory during this unprecedented time, small businesses, like ourselves, will be feeling a significant impact - and without the assistance of any type of bailout, have only the communities help to rely on!

If you are in a position to do so, please consider supporting these small businesses by online shopping, delivery or take away and purchasing gift cards -- anything you can do to help!

This is also a perfect time to show your support for medical professionals, first responders, and any other heros in your life who don’t have the luxury of working from home! Give twice the support and appreciation by sending a little something their way!

We hope you’ll join us in standing by our community and shopping small!
