Adventures in Hungryland: Experimenting with Duncan Hines Frosting Creations!
Have you heard about this new product line? It features a TON of different flavor mixes (with hardly any calories) meant to add flavor to a frosting base. While we LOVE flavor, we don’t really have a place in our day-to-day lives for frosting. So we took to the kitchen with our rebellious ways, a bunch of the flavor mixes, and a couple of HG-friendly bases — Cool Whip Free and plain fat-free Greek yogurt. The results were delicious! However, here are some things you should know…The mixes are NOT sweetened. (After all, they’re supposed to be added to frosting!) If you mix some into an unsweetened base, like plain yogurt, you’ll need to add something for sweetness. No-calorie sweetener like Splenda or Truvia works great. Don’t dump too much in at a time! Each flavor packet is meant for a 16-oz. can of frosting, so if you’re flavoring up a small amount of something, you only need a little of the mix. The HG favorites? Cotton Candy (IT’S BLUE!) and Cinnamon Roll — both were great mixed with Cool Whip Free (individually, of course), and the resulting fluffy flavored concoctions would be great on some guilt-free cake. The Cherry Vanilla was good mixed into plain fat-free Greek yogurt. Chocolate Marshmallow = not the best. Check out the bazillion flavors available, and try some for yourself. Maybe add a little to oatmeal or even fat-free cream cheese — you never know what amazing discovery may come of it! Keep us posted… |
