Getting ready to register? Read these tips before you hit the stores
Katey and I have been fielding a lot of questions lately having to do with registering for gifts. It is very easy to get overwhelmed with this phase of the engagement process, especially if you or your groom don’t even like to shop. We found some tips from The Knot and wanted to share a few of the top ones. You can also check out a previous post from us!
Register Early – This is especially helpful to your friends/family in case anyone wants to get you an engagement gift. I’m not saying go out to Bed Bath and Beyond the day after he pops the question but just consider the time line of your wedding and pick a weekend to knock it all out. At the very least you can start the registry in the store(s) and then edit it online. Very simple!
Register for whatever you want – A lot of stores offer checklists of items for you to add to your registry but don’t feel like you have to follow it exactly. Decide what you all need as a couple, look at what you have already and figure out what you want new. Everyone is different, we even registered for new deck furniture (and got it!).
Make sure you hit all price points – If you register for it…someone will buy it! Don’t feel bad registering for a high price item, you may have friends or family that will go in on a joint gift and get you something pricey. So don’t skip over that fancy vacuum! But of course you want to make sure to have some lower priced items as well (think kitchen gadgets) to make sure there is something on the list for everyone.
Update often – Like I mentioned before, check the registry online and continue to update. Seasonal items will refresh in the stores so you don’t want to miss out. They may also offer a different color of an item you previously registered for but like the new color better. Don’t feel tied to something once you put it on the list.
Already have everything you could ever want or need? Be on the lookout for a post about registering for money (well…sort of)! Apparently asking for cash – without saying, “Registered at Wells Fargo” on the invite, is now on option. Stay tuned.
