wedding spotlight: emily + matt, october 4, 2008
I love Baltimore for many reasons, but one of those is not football. Being a die-hard Steeler’s fan living in the heart of Raven’s country is tough this time of year. BUT today I get to bring a little of the ‘burgh to the day by celebrating Emily & Matt’s three-year anniversary of their wedding that took place in downtown Pittsburgh in 2008.
If you couldn’t tell from the above picture, Emily and Matt are just the cutest couple. They met at Miami University (Miami Mergers!) and got married in 2008. While I could go on and on about the details and the all around amazingness that went into this wedding (one of the best wedding dinners I’ve ever had, from sushi to steak and mexican), I want to focus on how Emily and Matt had fun with her rehearsal dinner, and why you should too! Emily and Matt are both huge football (and sports in general) fans, Emily rooting for the Steelers of course, and Matt a die-hard colts fan (Yes, even AFC rivals can get married). They chose to have their rehearsal dinner be a jersey and jeans theme at PNC park home of the winning (?) Pittsburgh Pirates. They rented out one of the suite bars and guests were encouraged to wear one of their favorite team’s jerseys. The venue was perfect and everyone could enjoy great views of the field and downtown Pittsburgh in a classy venue while being comfortable in their jersey’s and jeans.
We had ball park food and sports-themed favors while enjoying the casual environment getting to know family members and friends. It was followed by a fun night out in the south side, which was very close to where most of us were staying — nice and convenient!
Think outside the box for your rehearsal dinner. Perhaps pay more for a cool venue with casual food. Or really think about some of you and your fiance’s favorite places and hobbies, and even if it seems crazy, check out holding a rehearsal dinner there. Rehearsal’s don’t have to be at fancy restaurants or even a restaurant in general! If you’re looking to mix up your wedding weekend a bit, think about a unique celebration for your closest friends and family at the rehearsal dinner!
Happy three years to emily & matt!!!!
(PS. I also hope both our football teams get healthy… and SOON!)
