SUPER BOWL!! A not so “event-like” post
It’s Super Bowl Sunday!!!!! Even if your team is not playing in the big game today I would have to think just about everybody is excited for the game anyway. Though I am sad about the season officially coming to a close, I always look forward to the gathering of friends for one loud and emotional evening. With that being said, this post is not the typical event blog you may be used to…more like an ode to the sport, to the memories around it.
When I was growing up, it didn’t matter what time of year it was, we always had football on our minds. My grandparents, specifically my grandpa (Poppy) was a HUGE NY Giants fan. I’m talking obsessed. Their basement had a custom Giants blue carpet with the logo smack dab in the middle. The logo was fitted in a big white circle that we were NEVER allowed to walk on. Heaven forbid we had dirty feet and stained it! This of course made it the perfect center for the games I would play with my siblings and cousins and would drive Poppy crazy. I remember jumping over the logo as if it were a river we would drown in if our feet hit it.
Taking up the rest of the space were photos of Poppy and his friends tailgating in the parking lot, pictures of players, pictures WITH players, autographs, books, pennants, the whole nine yards. Clearly it was the perfect setting for hide and seek (insert sarcasm here).
I was even given the amazing opportunity to go to the Super Bowl back in February 2008 when the Giants faced the Patriots and pulled out the big win in the last like…minute of the game. Sorry I can’t remember the exact time count as I was too busy chanting “18 AND 1″ at the time.
Anyway, when I watch football I don’t usually care who is playing, but it’s what the game brings to the table. The memories it brings up. The new memories you make with your friends.
So enjoy your day today folks and GO BIG BLUE!!
