lemon & lime event reveal: Mimi Goodtime’s Speakeasy…a prohibition party
If you follow us on Facebook or Twitter then you have been lucky enough to catch glimpses of our super secretive Prohibition Party a few weeks ago. Our client tasked us with putting together an event for her friends based on the award-winning show, Boardwalk Empire (minus all of the violence and…other things). Hello, how cool is that?!
We knew our first step had to be to find the perfect venue, and after checking out countless locations in the Washington DC and Arlington, VA areas we landed at The Hamilton….the biggest restaurant (and open 24 hours!) in DC. While it’s a huge restaurant, we fell in love with their private room, The Loft, which was seculded from the rest of the areas. The space already had a bit of a dark vibe to it but we needed to take it much further to get that sultry feel that the client wanted. Enter Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and their massive event rental options!
Simultaneously to the search, we had reached out to our good friend Lindsay Petrick to begin designing the invitation. The invite was really going to set the mood for the event and we wanted to get people excited (and in character) for the night’s events. To continue with the secrecy of the speakeasy theme, people who had RSVP’ed yes were mailed black cards that would allow them entrance to the party. Without it, they were going to be bounced off the premises (need to keep out the riff raff obviously).
We outfitted the room with wine barrel tables and added speakeasy themed accents like crates, candelabras, pearls and cigar boxes, but best of all, we worked with Chick Chicka Boom Boom to create a custom speakeasy door! Nobody was getting into this party unless they were on the list, or at least not without the black card. All of the fun decor paired with signature drinks and delectable food (including a new favorite of mine — fried chicken, bacon, on a mini waffle…YUM!)…it was an amazing night!
Oh yea, and did we mention everyone had to dress in costume? The guests went all out and everyone looked great!
